MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Soccer team came from behind to tie Chowan University 1-1 in a non-conference game on Saturday.
The Senators fell behind early on as the hosts were given the lead by Josh Baker in the 5th minute. Baker was able to connect on a cross from the top of the box by Paul Migliarina to the back post to beat
Hedi Mehnaoui.
The Senators played an even half with Chowan the rest of the way, splitting shots, but remained down, heading into the break trailing 0-1.
In the second half, it was mostly one-way traffic as the Senators fired 21 shots to Chowan's 4. However, the visitors struggled to find a breakthrough, even with Octavio Espino picking up a straight red card in the 65th minute.
In the 90th minute, the Senators finally hit the breakthrough as
Alex Samarzich headed home
Tim Staerz's cross to beat Carlos Ramirez and tie the game up at 1.
The Senators would test Chowan twice in the overtime session, but were unable to find a winner.
Everton Carvalho also saw time in goal on Saturday. He would go on to make three saves in the match including one in overtime to help preserve the tie.
D&E will wrap up the season on Tuesday with a trip to rival Alderson Broaddus. A Senators win at AB would clinch the regular season championship and earn D&E hosting rights and the No. 1 seed in the G-MAC Tournament.
