Tyler Oertle enters his first season with the Davis & Elkins baseball program as the Senators’ Battery Coordinator.
Oertle joins Davis & Elkins with collegiate coaching experience at Gavilan College, where he served as an assistant baseball coach and specialized in catching development. During his time at Gavilan, he helped develop several catchers who went on to continue their playing careers. His responsibilities also included recruiting, fundraising, baserunning, fielding and hitting development, serving as a first-base coach, throwing batting practice and assisting with scouting reports and game-day preparation.
Oertle also implemented and oversaw the baseball team’s weightlifting and conditioning program at Gavilan College.
In addition to his coaching background, Oertle brings more than a decade of professional experience in law enforcement. He served as a Sheriff Correctional Deputy and Internal Affairs Investigator with the Santa Clara County Office of the Sheriff, as well as a Jail Training Officer responsible for training new deputies.
Oertle earned an Associate of Arts degree in kinesiology from Gavilan College in 2012 and a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 2014. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in kinesiology from the University of the Southwest.
He holds certifications as a Performance Enhancement Specialist and Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, as well as CPR/First Aid/AED and Tactical Medical for First Responders certifications.
Oertle is a strong advocate for autism awareness and is a father of two.
