Harley Kinney: Dedicated Leader in Women’s Lacrosse
Harley Kinney is now entering her fifth year as an assistant coach with the women’s lacrosse team at Davis & Elkins College. Since being the inaugural hire of head coach David Pomeroy in June 2021, she has played a crucial role in the program’s growth and success.
Wearing multiple hats, Kinney oversees recruiting, coordinates the defense, and leads the strength and conditioning efforts, providing a comprehensive approach to developing the team. Her guidance supports both the athletic skills and personal development of the student-athletes under her mentorship.
Kinney’s athletic career began at the collegiate level in Wisconsin, where she competed in lacrosse at Northland College and Marian University. In addition to lacrosse, she excelled in soccer and ice hockey, bringing a broad athletic experience that enhances her coaching style and helps her connect deeply with her players.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, which strengthens her ability to address the mental and emotional aspects of sport, promoting overall athlete wellness. Kinney credits her parents, Wyvern and Patrick Kinney, for their steadfast support throughout her journey.
As a proud member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa “Ojibwe,” Kinney infuses the program with a strong sense of cultural identity and community. Living in Elkins, she continues to motivate her players through her passion, dedication, and pursuit of excellence on and off the field. More than a coach, Harley Kinney serves as a mentor and role model, helping shape the future of women’s lacrosse at Davis & Elkins College.
