David Pomeroy: A Legacy of Excellence in Women's Lacrosse

David Pomeroy stands as a transformative figure in women’s lacrosse, currently serving as the head coach of the Davis & Elkins College Senators. Since taking the reins of the program in the fall of 2021, Pomeroy has quickly established himself as the all-time winningest coach in the program’s history, leading the team to remarkable achievements that reflect his dedication and expertise.

With 18 years of coaching experience under his belt, Pomeroy has fostered an environment where both athletic and academic excellence thrive. His tenure has been marked by unprecedented success, including three consecutive appearances in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Semi-Finals. Under his leadership, the Senators have garnered an impressive 12 All-Conference awards and celebrated the achievements of five MEC All-Freshman players in just three seasons.

The 2023-24 season was a landmark year for the program, showcasing the team's potential as they set a new record with a stunning 12-win season. This achievement was complemented by six All-MEC honors, including standout players such as Ariana Hinton, Zoe Mackey, Kimmy Winoker, Izzie Sevila, Marrisa Cuevas, and Jessie Dwyer. Zoe Mackey’s recognition as the MEC Freshman of the Year further highlighted the extraordinary talent cultivated within the team. Additionally, Mackey, Dwyer, and Ke’ya Stevens earned spots on the MEC All-Freshman Team, underscoring the program's commitment to nurturing young talent.

Pomeroy's influence is felt beyond the field as well; his athletes consistently earn recognition on the D&E President’s and Dean’s Lists, exemplifying the balance of academic and athletic excellence. The previous seasons also reflect his impact, with notable awards in 2022-23 for players like Marissa Cuevas, who ranked among the top in national statistics for saves, and in 2021-22, where Cuevas was honored as MEC Defensive Player of the Year for the second time.

David Pomeroy’s journey to this point is equally inspiring. After facing a life-threatening throat injury in high school that prevented him from participating in NCAA sports, he embraced his passion for the game by playing in the MCLA for the University of Wyoming from 2006 to 2008. Pomeroy holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Rowan University and a master’s degree in Sport Management from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Residing in Elkins, Pomeroy continues to inspire both his players and the wider community. His legacy is one of resilience, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, making him a cornerstone of Davis & Elkins women’s lacrosse and a mentor to future generations.
