Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — No. 12 Davis & Elkins College men's soccer scored twice in the first half and held Shawnee State scoreless in a 2-0 victory Wednesday night at Shawnee State University.
The Senators opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Benjamin Luengo found the back of the net off an assist from Johan Magaña.
Just under four minutes later, D&E doubled its lead as Magaña scored his third goal of the season, assisted by Souleymane Baal, giving the Senators a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.
D&E's defense continued to control the match in the second half, limiting Shawnee State to just two shots for the match and none after halftime. The Senators also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Charlie Phillips recorded the shutout in goal for D&E, playing all 90 minutes without allowing a goal or recording a save.
The Senators finished with a 19-2 advantage in shots, including a 12-0 edge in shots on goal. Francisco Lopez Kreik led D&E with seven shots and five shots on goal, while Sergio Martinez-Laborda added three shots and two shots on goal.
Luengo and Magaña each recorded a goal, while Magaña and Baal each added an assist.
With the victory, the No. 12 Senators improve to 6-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in Mountain East Conference play.
