Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The Davis & Elkins College women's soccer team fell to Shawnee State, 2-1, Wednesday evening at Shawnee State.
The Bears took a 1-0 lead late in the first half when Lucie Ashkettle scored in the 41st minute.
Davis & Elkins generated increased offensive pressure in the second half, outshooting Shawnee State 13-2 and holding a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks for the match. The Senators finished with 17 shots, including 13 on goal.
Shawnee State doubled its lead in the 81st minute when Sabina Morera Mas found the back of the net.
The Senators answered late, as Kristia Kouppi scored in the 89th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. D&E continued to pressure the Bears in the final minutes but was unable to find the equalizer.
Kouppi led the Senators with three shots, including two on goal, and scored her first goal of the season. Carolyne Mathenia recorded four shots, with three on goal, while Sophia Brown also registered four shots and two on goal.
Gabriela Acevedo started in goal for D&E and recorded two goals against in 80:42. Luisa Camara played the final 9:18 and made one save.
D&E held a 17-5 advantage in total shots and a 13-3 edge in shots on goal, while Shawnee State finished with 12 saves.
