ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College men's and women's tennis teams competed against the University of Virginia's College at Wise on Saturday, with the men's team falling 5-2 and the women's team dropping a 7-0 decision.

On the men's side, the Senators picked up two singles victories. Philipp Fedorczuk defeated Ribas Escoda at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4, while Asier Perez earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Gonzalez Garza at No. 4 singles.

D&E also earned a win at No. 3 doubles, as Julio Troncoso and Maurizio Gutierrez defeated Nilaweera and Martinez Prego, 7-6, 7-5.

The women's team battled through several competitive matches despite the 7-0 team result.

Saumya Chatterjee pushed her No. 2 singles match to a third-set tiebreak before falling to Abdelaal, 0-6, 7-5, 9-11. Matild Sutherland also battled at No. 3 singles, falling to Onitoiu, 7-6, 5-7, 3-10, after taking the opening set in a tiebreak.

In doubles, Chloe Vu and Chatterjee competed at No. 1 doubles, while Lilly Wentzler and Emiliana Golac Poppe and Sutherland and Maddie Frazier also represented the Senators.

Both teams will return to action Oct. 2 at Millersville University. Match times are to be determined.
