ELKINS, W.Va. — The No. 15 Davis & Elkins College men's soccer team remained unbeaten on the season Wednesday night, defeating Wheeling University, 2-1, at Nuttall Field.

The Senators improved to 4-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in Mountain East Conference play, while Wheeling fell to 1-5-0 overall and 0-4-0 in conference action.

Davis & Elkins controlled the offensive attack throughout the match, finishing with a 23-6 advantage in shots and an 11-4 edge in corner kicks.

The Senators opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Santiago Maiolo found the back of the net at 20:48. Hugo Fauli was credited with the assist, giving D&E a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Davis & Elkins doubled its lead early in the second half. Francisco Lopez Kreik scored in the 62nd minute at 61:50, with Caio Braga providing the assist.

Wheeling cut the deficit in half in the 82nd minute when Elie Simon converted a penalty kick, but the Senators' defense held the Cardinals off the scoreboard for the remainder of the match.

Charlie Phillips played all 90 minutes in goal for D&E, making three saves. Wheeling goalkeeper Alberto Madail recorded 10 saves.

Lopez Kreik led the Senators with four shots, including three on goal. Fauli and Maiolo each added three shots, with two on target.
