Box Score 2 ATHENS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College volleyball team competed in two matches Friday at the Concord Classic, falling to Bluefield State, 3-2, before dropping a 3-0 decision to host Concord at the Carter Center.
Davis & Elkins opened the day with a five-set battle against Bluefield State, taking the first and fourth sets before Bluefield State secured the 15-7 win in the deciding set. The Senators took the opening set, 25-22, before Bluefield State answered with 25-13 and 25-17 wins. D&E forced a fifth set with a 25-21 fourth-set victory.
Aliceya Ciftcioglu led the Senators with 12 kills and 18 digs, while Alexandra Mattey added 11 kills and Kaylee Vanjo finished with nine. Liene Dujin recorded 40 assists and 16 digs, while Neve Norris posted 18 digs.
Davis & Elkins finished with 49 kills compared to 43 for Bluefield State and recorded 47 assists and 88 digs. The Senators also totaled seven blocks, led by three each from Braelyn Brenneman and Vanjo.
The Senators returned to the court later Friday afternoon against Concord, falling 25-16, 25-9 and 25-17.
Brenneman and Mattey led D&E with five kills apiece, while Madison McGarry added three kills. Brenneman also recorded a team-high five blocks. Dujin finished with 15 assists, and Norris led the defensive effort with nine digs.
Davis & Elkins totaled 19 kills, 19 assists and 33 digs in the match.
