Box Score SALEM, Va. — No. 4 North Davis & Elkins dropped its opening game of the Mountain East Conference Softball Tournament, falling 8-0 in six innings to No. 1 South Charleston on Wednesday afternoon at Moyer Sports Complex.
Charleston broke through in the third inning, taking advantage of a pair of unearned runs on a two-RBI single to right center. The Golden Eagles added to their lead in the fifth, capitalizing on a mix of timely hits and defensive miscues to score three more runs and extend the advantage to 5-0.
In the sixth, Charleston sealed the run-rule victory with a three-run home run to center, pushing the margin to 8-0.
Davis & Elkins tallied six hits in the contest, led by Alyssa Haynes and Lorena Ruiz-Rubio with two hits apiece. Ashlyn Zapach and Trinity Fleming also recorded hits for the Senators.
Sammie Jarvis took the loss in the circle, allowing eight runs—three earned—on seven hits while striking out three. Charleston's Addison Mass earned the win, tossing a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts.
Despite the loss, Davis & Elkins will continue play in the double-elimination tournament. The Senators are scheduled to face No. 3 South Concord on Thursday, May 7 at 2:30 p.m. at Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia.
