Senators Fall in MEC Doubleheader at West Virginia Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins baseball dropped a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at West Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday, falling 3-1 in game one and 2-1 in game two at Jack Cook Field.

Game One: West Virginia Wesleyan 3, Davis & Elkins 1

West Virginia Wesleyan struck late to pull away for a 3-1 victory in the opener.

The Senators struck first in the fourth inning when Jett Walters launched a solo home run to give Davis & Elkins a 1-0 lead.

The Bobcats answered immediately in the bottom half of the frame, tying the game on an RBI single from Dylan Neach that brought home Carter Collins.

West Virginia Wesleyan took the lead in the fifth on a groundout RBI from Drew Jrolf, scoring Coleman Cross, and added insurance in the sixth on another RBI single from Neach.

Davis & Elkins finished with seven hits, led by Walters, who went 3-for-3 with a home run and RBI. Carsan Strolla also added two hits for the Senators.

Dallas Rasmussen took the loss, working six innings and allowing three runs on four hits with three strikeouts.

Alex Hernandez earned the win for West Virginia Wesleyan, allowing one run over six innings, while Austin Mann recorded the save.

Game Two: West Virginia Wesleyan 2, Davis & Elkins 1

West Virginia Wesleyan completed the sweep with a walk-off win in game two.

The Bobcats scored first in the opening inning on an RBI single from Carter Collins, bringing home Grant Shumaker for a 1-0 lead.

Davis & Elkins answered in the second when Aiden Morey delivered an RBI single to score Mason Brenneman and even the game at 1-1.

Pitching dominated from that point forward, with both starters keeping offenses in check.

West Virginia Wesleyan broke the deadlock in the bottom of the seventh when Collins delivered his second RBI single of the game, scoring Isaac Lough to secure the 2-1 win.

The Senators totaled six hits in the contest, with multiple players contributing one hit each.

Collin Schneider took the loss after allowing the deciding run in relief. West Virginia Wesleyan starter Drake Long earned the win after striking out 10 over seven innings.
