Box Score CHARLESTON, W. Va. — The Davis & Elkins women's lacrosse team fell to the University of Charleston, 16–7, in Mountain East Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Davis & Elkins jumped out to an early lead with two goals in the opening minutes. Rylee Anderson opened the scoring at the 14:53 mark of the first quarter off an assist from Izzie Sevila, and Sevila added an unassisted goal less than three minutes later to give the Senators a 2–0 advantage.
Charleston responded with a four-goal run to close the first quarter and take a 4–2 lead heading into the second.
The Golden Eagles extended their advantage in the second quarter with three straight goals before Anderson netted her second of the game with just over a minute remaining in the half. Charleston answered again in the final seconds to carry an 8–3 lead into halftime.
Talia Berardo sparked the Senators early in the third quarter with an unassisted goal, and Savannah Quave later converted a free-position opportunity to keep D&E within reach. Charleston, however, answered with four goals in the period to push the margin to 12–5.
Josephine Whorton scored early in the fourth quarter off an assist from Berardo, but the Golden Eagles added four more goals to extend their lead. Berardo capped the scoring for the Senators with a free-position goal late in the final period.
Berardo and Anderson each finished with two goals to lead the D&E offense. Sevila added a goal and an assist, while Whorton and Quave each recorded a goal.
Defensively, Anderson and Mackenzie Mullan each caused three turnovers for the Senators, while Mullan also controlled two draws.
In goal, Megan Bauer made 11 saves over 43 minutes of action, while Daelyn Hardnack recorded one save in relief.
Charleston held advantages in shots (32–18) and draw controls (16–4).
Davis & Elkins returns to action Monday, April 6, when the Senators travel to Pepper Pike, Ohio, to face Ursuline College at 4 p.m. in nonconference play.
