ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins women's tennis fell 6-1 to West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon at the Thomas Tennis Center on Senior Day, as the Senators honored senior Erin Laubscher prior to the match.
West Virginia Wesleyan opened the contest by sweeping doubles play to take a 1-0 lead. The Senators' top performance in doubles came at No. 1, where Liebe Oosthuizen and Laubscher were defeated 6-3 by Pozzobon and Van Vuuren. At No. 2, Lilly Wentzler and Fabienne Lahn fell 6-3, while Maddie Frazier and Emiliana Golac dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 3.
Davis & Elkins picked up its lone team point in singles action at the No. 2 position, where Oosthuizen battled back to defeat Godlewska 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.
The Senators came up short in the remaining singles matches. Lahn fell at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-2, while Wentzler was defeated at No. 3, 6-1, 6-4. Laubscher pushed Y. Sakurai to a second-set tiebreak at No. 4 before falling 0-6, 7-6 (2). Golac was defeated 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5, and Frazier dropped a 6-1, 6-1 match at No. 6.
