FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins men's tennis fell 5-2 to No. 27 Fairmont State on Friday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action.
The Senators dropped two of three doubles matches as Fairmont State took an early 1-0 lead. Justus Petersilie and Philipp Fedorczuk fell at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, while Christo Wirahadipoernomo and Tom Strohschein were defeated 6-3 at No. 2. Simon Kiekbeld and Filippo Buffo dropped a 6-4 decision at No. 3.
Davis & Elkins earned its first point in singles play at No. 6, where Santiago Ordonez defeated De Souza Do Prado Masu 5-7, 6-3, 17-15 in a third-set tiebreak.
The Senators added another point at No. 4 singles as Strohschein defeated Liedtke 6-4, 7-5.
Fairmont State clinched the match with wins at Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 5 singles.
At No. 1 singles, Philipp Fedorczuk fell 4-6, 6-3, 0-6 to Kusunoki. Petersilie dropped a 1-6, 6-4, 2-6 decision at No. 2. Wirahadipoernomo was defeated 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3, and Buffo fell 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5.
Davis & Elkins returns home to face Bluefield State on Monday in Elkins.
