Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins baseball dropped both games of a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Cal Bailey Field on Sunday, falling 9-8 in 11 innings in game one before a 9-4 setback in game two against West Virginia State Yellow Jackets.
Game One: West Virginia State 9, Davis & Elkins 8 (11 innings)
Davis & Elkins (5-40, 3-22 MEC) battled back from an early deficit but ultimately fell in extra innings on a walk-off single in the 11th.
West Virginia State plated four runs in the opening inning to take early control, but the Senators chipped away throughout the middle frames. RBI efforts from Kenny Capria and Zach Calef-Boring in the third cut into the deficit, while Jett Walters added an RBI single in the fourth.
Trailing 6-4 entering the seventh, Davis & Elkins surged ahead behind a three-run home run from Carsan Strolla and a solo shot from Joel Wise to take an 8-6 lead. The Yellow Jackets responded in the bottom half with a two-run homer to even the score at 8-8.
Both teams were held scoreless through the next three innings before West Virginia State delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 11th to secure the win.
Wise led the Senators offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a home run, while Strolla drove in three runs. Capria added two hits and an RBI.
Game Two: West Virginia State 9, Davis & Elkins 4
West Virginia State (17-26, 10-16 MEC) used a pair of big innings to complete the sweep, scoring four runs in the first and adding four more in the sixth.
Davis & Elkins struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening inning, but the Yellow Jackets responded immediately with a solo home run and a three-run shot to jump in front 4-1.
The Senators chipped away with a solo home run from Aiden Morey in the fourth and added runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but could not overcome the deficit.
Morey finished with two RBIs, while Carsan Strolla added an RBI hit. Kenny Capria, Zach Calef-Boring and Jett Walters each recorded hits in the loss.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Friday, May 1, for a road doubleheader at West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m., with game two set for 7:30 p.m. in Buckhannon, West Virginia.
