Box Score FROSTBURG, Md. — Davis & Elkins College women's lacrosse fell on the road to Frostburg State University, 20-4, in a Mountain East Conference matchup Wednesday evening.
Frostburg State (14-3, 9-1 MEC) set the tone early, scoring nine first-quarter goals and building a 13-2 lead by halftime. The Bobcats outshot the Senators 39-11 and held a 30-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Davis & Elkins (11-7, 4-6 MEC) found the scoreboard in the second quarter on an unassisted goal from Talia Berardo before Avelyn Anderson added another late in the half off an assist from Alexia Gonzales. Malia Galan converted a free-position opportunity in the third quarter, and Gonzales capped the scoring with a man-down goal in the final seconds.
Gonzales led the Senators with two points on a goal and an assist, while Galan, Berardo, and Anderson each added a goal. Mackenzie Mullan contributed a team-high four draw controls.
Defensively, Daelyn Hardnack made seven saves in relief to lead D&E, while Harriet Johnson and Megan Bauer also saw time in goal.
Frostburg State was paced by Neila Haney's five goals and three assists, with Delaney Burrows adding four goals and Avery O'Hara contributing three goals and two assists.
The Bobcats controlled possession throughout, winning the draw control battle 13-10 and forcing 28 turnovers by the Senators.
Davis & Elkins will turn its attention to postseason play, traveling to face Wheeling University in the MEC Tournament semifinal play-in game on Sunday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m. in Wheeling, West Virginia.
