Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins baseball dropped both games of a Mountain East Conference doubleheader to Glenville State on Friday at Harpertown Field, falling 12-2 in game one and 13-5 in game two.
Game One: Glenville State 12, Davis & Elkins 2
Glenville State used a big middle innings push to take control and cruise to a 12-2 win in the opener.
The Pioneers struck first with two runs in the opening inning before Davis & Elkins answered in the bottom half when Mason Brenneman drove in Carsan Strolla to make it 2-1. Glenville State responded with two runs in the third and broke the game open with a three-run fourth, aided by defensive miscues.
The Pioneers added two runs in the fifth and capped the scoring with three more in the seventh.
Zach Calef-Boring led the Senators with an RBI double, while Brenneman also drove in a run. Strolla and Dylan Leadbetter each scored for Davis & Elkins.
Adam Bright recorded three hits and scored three times for Glenville State, while Ashton Crace added four hits in the win.
Kenny Capria took the loss, allowing seven runs (four earned) over four innings. Zach Dellerman earned the win after allowing two runs over 5.2 innings.
Game Two: Glenville State 13, Davis & Elkins 5
Davis & Elkins briefly grabbed the lead, but Glenville State responded with multiple big innings to complete the sweep with a 13-5 victory.
The Pioneers scored twice in the first and added another run in the third before the Senators answered with a four-run third inning. Zach Calef-Boring, Carsan Strolla and Tyler Mendoza each recorded RBI hits in the frame, while Grant Mealey also drove in a run to give D&E a 4-3 lead.
Glenville State answered immediately, tying the game in the fourth before scoring three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to pull away. The Pioneers added two runs in the seventh to close out the scoring.
Strolla led the Senators with a 3-for-4 performance and an RBI, while Calef-Boring added two hits and an RBI. Mealey finished with two RBIs, and Mendoza also drove in a run.
Zach Laurie paced Glenville State with three hits and five RBIs.
Carson Gorby was charged with the loss in relief, while Adrian Orozco earned the win after tossing four innings and allowing one run.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Saturday, April 18, hosting Glenville State for another Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Harpertown Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., with game two set for 3:30 p.m.
