Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. — Point Park used a fast start and balanced offensive attack to defeat Davis & Elkins, 16-6, Wednesday evening in a G-MAC men's lacrosse contest at Nuttall Field.
Point Park scored five times in the opening quarter and never trailed after surrendering the game's first goal. Davis & Elkins struck first at the 14:06 mark of the first period when JayC Morlog found the back of the net, but the visitors responded with five unanswered goals to take control early.
Sawyer Leko led all scorers with five goals and two assists for Point Park, while Grant Huber added four goals. Parker Bowersox contributed three goals, and Braydan Stearns chipped in two goals and an assist in the win.
Point Park extended its lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Senators 4-1 in the frame to take a 9-2 advantage into halftime. Davis & Elkins got a goal from Devon Garcia during the quarter but struggled to slow the Pioneers' offensive momentum.
The Senators showed life in the third quarter, posting three goals in the period. Anthony Mann-Fry, Garcia and Karsen Kronen each found the net to help trim the deficit to 11-5 heading into the final quarter.
Garcia led Davis & Elkins with two goals while adding eight shots, four shots on goal, four ground balls and three caused turnovers in a strong all-around performance. Kronen totaled a team-high 11 shots and added five ground balls, while Nolan Harris contributed five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
However, Point Park pulled away again in the fourth, scoring five goals in the period. The Senators' lone goal in the final frame came from Xzavier Jankowiak off an assist from Jordan Delorme.
Morlog, Jankowiak, Mann-Fry and Kronen each added a goal for Davis & Elkins.
In goal, Avery Linthicum recorded 17 saves and added three caused turnovers for the Senators, while Point Park's Connor Boyle finished with 15 saves.
Point Park held a slight edge in shots (49-48) and shots on goal (33-21), while also winning the ground ball battle 44-32 and the faceoff margin 17-9.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Saturday, April 18, traveling to Midland, Michigan to face Northwood University in G-MAC play.
