ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College men's swimming team swept the Mountain East Conference's top postseason honors, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore Lasse Schrieken was named MEC Men's Swimmer of the Year, freshman Leonardo Oshiro earned MEC Men's Freshman Swimmer of the Year honors, and head coach Nicole Rose was selected as MEC Men's Swimming Coach of the Year.
The trio of awards highlights a historic season for the Senators, who finished first among Mountain East Conference programs and third overall at the combined G-MAC/MEC Swimming & Diving Championships in February with 933.5 points, nearly doubling the team's total from the previous season when Davis & Elkins scored 514 points.
Schrieken, a sophomore from Veenendaal, Netherlands, scored 100 points at the championship meet to finish second overall among MEC competitors, behind his freshman teammate Oshiro. He earned first-team All-MEC honors in the 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley, while also helping the Senators claim first-team honors in the 800 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. Schrieken added second-team All-MEC recognition in the 200 medley relay.
During the regular season, Schrieken won 20 races and set program records in the 200 IM, 400 IM, 400 freestyle relay and 800 freestyle relay. He was also named MEC Athlete of the Week in January.
Oshiro, a freshman from Campo Grande, Brazil, led all male swimmers at the championship meet with 103 points to earn Freshman Swimmer of the Year honors. He claimed first-team All-MEC recognition in the 200 breaststroke and added second-team honors in the 100 breaststroke and 200 medley relay. Oshiro also earned honorable mention All-MEC accolades in the 200 IM and 400 IM.
Oshiro won 12 races during the 2025-26 regular season and set a school record in the 200 breaststroke. He was also named MEC Athlete of the Week in October.
Schrieken and Oshiro competed in the same four individual races at the MEC Championships, helping lead the Senators to the conference championship.
In her 12th season as head coach, Rose guided Davis & Elkins through one of the most successful seasons in program history. The Senators went undefeated in conference dual meets and recorded six MEC Athlete of the Week honors throughout the season.
"I am so proud of the dedication and effort from every member of the program, our coaching staff and our support staff," Rose said. "This was a challenging year, but our team chose to come together and push each other forward. I am proud to lead a group of people who care about one another as much as they care about success."
The Senators finished the season with 11 school records and 24 All-MEC honors, highlighting the program's continued rise within the conference.
