ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins men's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over Barton on the road Friday afternoon in nonconference action.
The Senators claimed four of six singles matches after splitting doubles play to secure the win.
Barton opened the match by taking the doubles point. The pairing of Filippo Buffo and Christo Wirahadipoernomo earned the lone doubles victory for Davis & Elkins with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles, while Barton picked up wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
Davis & Elkins responded strongly in singles play, winning five of the six matches.
Justus Petersilie led the charge at No. 2 singles, earning a straight-set victory over Foss, 6-2, 6-4. Wirahadipoernomo followed with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles over Alejandro Rodriguez Arcia.
Tom Strohschein added another point for the Senators at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-4 victory against Drake, while Buffo secured a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles over Starland.
Santiago Ordonez capped the singles success for Davis & Elkins with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles against Maphosa.
The Senators return to action Monday, March 9, when they host Millersville University at 11 a.m. in Elkins, West Virginia.
