ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Barton College on Friday afternoon in nonconference action.
Barton claimed the early advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Liebe Oosthuizen and Erin Laubscher fell 6-2 to Granstam and Reddy Yellu. Lilly Wentzler and Fabienne Lahn dropped a 6-3 decision at No. 2 doubles, while the No. 3 pair of Maddie Frazier and Emiliana Golac were defeated 6-0.
In singles play, Oosthuizen battled in the closest match of the day at the No. 1 position. After taking the opening set 6-0, she fell 6-2 in the second before dropping a 10-4 tiebreaker to Granstam.
Wentzler competed at No. 2 singles but fell 6-3, 6-1 to Andrea Saez, while Lahn was defeated 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3 singles by Reddy Yellu.
Laubscher dropped a 6-2, 6-1 match at No. 4 singles against Hellum-Lilleengen. At No. 5 singles, Golac fell 6-2, 6-0 to Carmona Garcia, and Frazier was defeated 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles by Zaratiegui.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Monday, March 9 at 11 a.m. when the Senators host Millersville University in Elkins.
