Box Score Melbourne, Fla. — Concordia-St. Paul used a pair of home runs and timely hitting to defeat Davis & Elkins, 8-0, in six innings Wednesday morning at the Space Coast Complex during the Space Coast Spring Games.
The Golden Bears broke through in the second inning when Katie Klotz hit a solo home run to center field. Later in the frame, Ashlyn Peterson tripled to left field to bring home another run and give Concordia-St. Paul a 2-0 advantage.
Concordia-St. Paul added to its lead in the fourth inning with a three-run homer from Lily Burke that pushed the margin to 5-0.
The Golden Bears continued to extend the lead in the fifth inning with a bunt RBI single from Nora Brandt before an unearned run scored on a throwing error. Concordia-St. Paul capped the scoring in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice RBI by Paige Wyngaard.
Davis & Elkins recorded seven hits in the contest but was unable to push a run across. Audrey Higgins led the Senators at the plate, going 3-for-3, while Maybe Ledesma added two hits. Ashlyn Zapach and Meg Henkle each recorded a hit for D&E.
Sammie Jarvis took the loss in the circle for the Senators, allowing five runs on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Alyssia Munoz pitched the final 1.1 innings in relief.
Tatum Dunlavy earned the win for Concordia-St. Paul after tossing a complete-game shutout and allowing seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Davis & Elkins will return to action March 14 when the Senators face Shepherd University in an MEC Crossover at 11 a.m. in Salem, Virginia, at Moyer Sports Complex.
