Box Score DAVENPORT, Fla. — The Davis & Elkins baseball team dropped a 9-3 decision to Roosevelt on Monday afternoon at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
Roosevelt scored three runs in the first inning and added two more in the second to take early control. The Lakers finished with 13 hits in the contest.
The Senators opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Carsan Strolla singled to bring home Mason Brenneman for a 1-0 lead. Roosevelt answered in the bottom half with four hits, including RBI singles from Bagaconza and Jannenga, to take a 3-1 advantage.
Roosevelt extended the lead to 5-1 in the second inning after Bowers tripled home a run and Munoz reached on an error that allowed another run to score.
Diego Reyes took the loss for Davis & Elkins, tossing 5 2/3 innings and allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits while striking out five. Joel Wise pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, giving up three runs (one earned).
Davis & Elkins collected nine hits in the game. Zach Calef-Boring led the Senators with two hits and an RBI. Brenneman, Grant Mealey, Strolla, Tyler Mendoza, Connor Hyde, Dylan Leadbetter and Kyle Ball each added a hit.
Roosevelt added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings and two more in the eighth to build a 9-1 lead.
The Senators scored twice in the ninth inning. Leadbetter crossed the plate on a passed ball, and Calef-Boring drove in a run with a single, but the rally fell short.
Davis & Elkins continues play Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. against St. Cloud State in Winter Haven, Florida.
