ELKINS, W. Va. — The Davis & Elkins College men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance Sunday afternoon, defeating West Liberty 7-0 in Mountain East Conference action. With the victory, the Senators improve to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Davis & Elkins secured the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Justus Petersilie and Philipp Fedorczuk defeated Zubieta and Shepard 6-3. Christo Wirahadipoernomo and Tom Strohschein followed with a 6-3 victory over Cowan and Zgurski at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Santiago Ordonez and Darren Tjen completed the sweep with a 6-2 win against Burns and Giurfa.
The Senators continued their momentum in singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets.
Fedorczuk dominated at No. 1 singles, defeating Zubieta 6-0, 6-0. Petersilie earned a 6-0, 6-3 win against Giurfa at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Wirahadipoernomo recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Shepard.
Strohschein added another point for the Senators with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Zgurski at No. 4 singles. Simon Kiekbeld defeated Cowan 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, and Timo Gerach finished the sweep with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Burns at No. 6 singles.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Thursday, April 2, when the Senators travel to face Thomas Jefferson University. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
