ELKINS, W. Va. — The Davis & Elkins College women's tennis team earned a 6-1 Mountain East Conference victory over West Liberty on Sunday.
With the win, the Senators improve to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Davis & Elkins secured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. The No. 2 duo of Lilly Wentzler and Fabienne Lahn picked up a 6-0 win over Dabas and Curnutte, while the No. 3 pairing of Maddie Frazier and Emiliana Golac Poppe defeated Monaco and Pasco 6-4. The No. 1 doubles match ended early due to retirement.
The Senators carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of the six matches.
At No. 2 singles, Martirosyan earned a straight-set victory over Liebe Oosthuizen, 6-4, 6-2. Fabienne Lahn cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, while Erin Laubscher dominated at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 result.
Emiliana Golac added another point for Davis & Elkins with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles, and Maddie Frazier completed the scoring with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles. The No. 1 singles match concluded early due to West Liberty's retirement.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Tuesday, April 7, when the Senators host Averett University. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Elkins.
