Box Score 2 MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — The Davis & Elkins College baseball team dropped both games of a Mountain East Conference doubleheader to Fairmont State on Saturday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field and Dale Miller Field.
The Senators fell 9-0 in game one before Fairmont State rallied late to claim a 5-3 win in game two.
Game One: Fairmont State 9, Davis & Elkins 0
Fairmont State opened the scoring in the first inning and never looked back, defeating Davis & Elkins 9-0 in the opener.
The Falcons plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a two-RBI single by Emrich. Fairmont added another run in the third before breaking the game open with a six-run sixth inning.
Hughes highlighted the sixth inning with a two-run home run down the left field line. Fairmont also received RBI hits from Emrich, Bubb and Johnston during the frame, while another run scored on a Davis & Elkins fielding error.
Davis & Elkins was limited to three hits in the contest. Kenny Capria, Carsan Strolla and Nate Silvus each recorded a hit for the Senators.
Cooper Blackburn took the loss on the mound for Davis & Elkins, allowing three runs on six hits over 3.1 innings while striking out one.
Game Two: Fairmont State 5, Davis & Elkins 3
The Senators held a late lead in game two, but Fairmont State used a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure a 5-3 victory and complete the doubleheader sweep.
Davis & Elkins opened the scoring in the second inning when Aiden Morey grounded into a double play that allowed Mason Brenneman to score.
Fairmont State tied the game in the fifth after a throwing error allowed a run to score, and a sacrifice fly from Sutton gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead.
The Senators responded in the sixth when Brenneman singled through the right side to score Kenny Capria and tie the game at 2-2. Davis & Elkins took a 3-2 lead in the seventh when Carsan Strolla was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in Dylan Leadbetter.
Fairmont State answered in the bottom half of the inning, however, as B. Green delivered a three-run home run to center field to give the Falcons the walk-off victory.
Brenneman led the Senators offensively in game two with two hits and an RBI, while Grant Mealey added two hits. Strolla recorded an RBI and Colarossi and Brody Rumon each added a hit.
Diego Reyes pitched 6.2 innings for Davis & Elkins, allowing five runs (three earned) while striking out five in the loss.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Sunday, March 29, traveling to Frostburg State for another Mountain East Conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Frostburg, Maryland.
