INSTITUTE, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins women's tennis fell 5-2 to West Virginia State on Wednesday in Mountain East Conference action.
The Senators split the doubles matches, winning at No. 3 but dropping the top two positions. Maddie Frazier and Emiliana Golac Poppe earned a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles, while Liebe Oosthuizen/Erin Laubscher and Lilly Wentzler/Fabienne Lahn fell in the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches, respectively.
In singles play, Davis & Elkins captured two wins. Fabienne Lahn posted a straight-set win at No. 3 singles, defeating Cruzado Fretel 6-4, 6-2, and Erin Laubscher added a 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 4 singles over Nichols.
West Virginia State picked up singles wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 to secure the team victory.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Sunday, March 29, when the Senators host West Liberty at 12:00 p.m. in Elkins, West Virginia.
