Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins baseball dropped both games of a nonconference doubleheader to WVU Tech on Tuesday afternoon at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley. The Senators fell 3-2 in a tightly contested opener before the Golden Bears took game two 13-2.
Game One: WVU Tech 3, Davis & Elkins 2
Davis & Elkins battled throughout the opener but came up just short as WVU Tech used timely scoring to secure a 3-2 win.
The Golden Bears struck first in the bottom of the second when Brayden Kiblinger delivered an RBI single to score Nolan Copeland for a 1-0 lead.
The Senators answered in the top of the third. Carsan Strolla singled to left field to bring home Kenny Capria and tie the game at 1-1.
WVU Tech responded in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice bunt by Gabe Templeton that scored Maddex Sims to regain a 2-1 advantage.
D&E evened the score again in the fourth inning when Nick Colarossi doubled to center field, scoring Mason Brenneman to make it 2-2.
The Golden Bears plated the deciding run in the fifth when Copeland drew a bases-loaded walk to score Sims and give WVU Tech a 3-2 lead that held through the final innings.
Strolla and Colarossi each collected two hits for the Senators, with both driving in a run. Brenneman and Capria scored the two D&E runs.
On the mound, Collin Schneider started and allowed two runs over three innings. Carson Gorby took the loss after allowing one run with four strikeouts across two innings, while Nate Silvus worked a scoreless sixth inning in relief.
Game Two: WVU Tech 13, Davis & Elkins 2
WVU Tech carried early momentum into the second game, scoring four runs in the first inning and seven more in the third to pull away for a 13-2 victory.
The Golden Bears opened the scoring with three straight RBI hits in the first inning, including a two-run double by Gabe Templeton that extended the lead to 4-0.
WVU Tech added seven runs in the third inning behind RBI hits from JJ Polvinale, Cody Cooper, Carson Crigger, and Joshua Tibbits to push the lead to 11-0.
The Golden Bears added two more runs in the sixth inning to make it 13-0 before the Senators broke through in the seventh.
D&E scored twice in the final frame as Kyle Thomas singled to drive in Jett Walters, and Brody Rumon followed with an RBI single that plated Aiden Morey.
Thomas, Rumon, Zach Calef-Boring, Joel Wise, and Morey each recorded hits for the Senators. Walters and Morey scored the team's two runs.
Mark Shelley took the loss after starting the game for Davis & Elkins. Charley Plummer, Bronson Ferencak, Cade Walters, and Bryce Hines all saw action in relief.
