MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Davis & Elkins men's and women's track and field opened the outdoor season with several strong performances at the Marty Pushkin Invitational hosted by West Virginia University.
The Senators were highlighted by multiple event victories and top finishes across distance and middle-distance events against a competitive field.
On the men's side, Jordan Thomas led the way with a victory in the 1500 meters, crossing the line in 3:58.70. Freshman Jack Waggy followed closely behind with a runner-up finish in 4:01.45, giving Davis & Elkins the top two spots in the event. Andrew Stein added a 15th-place finish in 4:11.45, while Andrew Bowen (4:16.76), Nick Gallo (4:17.43), and Aiden Granger (4:18.13) also competed in the event.
Konnor Allison delivered another victory for the Senators in the 1500-meter steeplechase, winning the event in 4:28.02. Paul Langkopf placed seventh in the race with a time of 4:38.51.
The Senators had a strong showing in the men's 800 meters as well. Tommy Bildheiser led the group with a fourth-place finish in 1:55.25, followed by Fletcher Van Heuven in sixth (1:55.78). Max Wildbore finished eighth in 1:56.78, while Slate Swiger (1:56.92) and Cooper Gibson (1:57.42) also posted top-12 finishes. Landon Sweitzer added a time of 2:03.33 in the event.
In relay action, the Davis & Elkins men's 4x400-meter relay team of Ian Wood, Bildheiser, Wildbore, and Van Heuven placed fourth with a time of 3:29.76. The Senators' second relay team of Gibson, Swiger, Sweitzer, and Stein finished sixth in 3:37.05.
On the women's side, Lauren Twyman delivered a standout performance with a victory in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:17.30. Taytum Walls placed 10th in 2:23.19, followed closely by Cameryn Wheeler in 11th (2:23.24), while Quinn Hazelett finished 20th in 2:27.97. Savanna Hardman was listed as a DNS in the event.
The Senators also had an impressive showing in the women's 1500 meters with five runners finishing inside the top 10. Jeanne Pelissier led the group with a third-place finish in 4:43.19, followed by Twyman in fourth (4:44.08). Rebecca Tellez finished sixth in 4:47.26, Zoe Belshan placed seventh in 4:50.06, and Sierra Taylor crossed the line ninth in 4:57.35.
Brooke Jacobs added a 12th-place finish in 5:00.25, while Wheeler (5:05.45) and Walls (5:07.32) also competed in the event. Hazelett finished 30th in 5:19.60, and Frederique Morin recorded a time of 5:26.63.
Taylor also delivered a strong performance in the women's 1500-meter steeplechase, finishing second overall with a time of 5:34.15.
Davis & Elkins returns to action March 27–28 at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational in Pittsburgh, Pa.
