ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins women's tennis team fell 6-1 to the University of Charleston in Mountain East Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Charleston claimed the doubles point after sweeping the three matches to take an early 1-0 lead.
At No. 1 doubles, the pairing of Liebe Oosthuizen and Erin Laubscher fell 6-0 to Krasikova and Martinez. The Golden Eagles added another win at No. 2 doubles as Lilly Wentzler and Fabienne Lahn were defeated 6-1 by Hirzberger and Mueller.
Charleston completed the doubles sweep at No. 3 doubles, where Maddie Frazier and Emiliana Golac fell 6-0 to Hondiashvilli and Connor.
The Golden Eagles won five of the six singles matches to secure the team victory.
At No. 1 singles, Martinez defeated Oosthuizen 6-0, 6-2, while Mueller topped Wentzler 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Connor earned a win at No. 3 singles, defeating Lahn 6-0, 7-6.
Davis & Elkins picked up its lone point of the match at No. 4 singles, where Laubscher defeated Hirzberger 6-3, 6-3.
Charleston added wins at No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles to close out the match.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Wednesday, March 25, when the Senators travel to face West Virginia State at 12 p.m. in Institute, West Virginia.
