Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College women's lacrosse team used a late fourth-quarter run to defeat Edinboro, 13–10, Saturday afternoon at Nuttall Field.
With the win, the Senators improve to 5–1 overall on the season.
Davis & Elkins opened the scoring when Ke'ya Stevens found the back of the net off an assist from Morgan Rogers at the 13:02 mark of the first quarter. Edinboro quickly responded to even the score, but Savannah Quave scored with four seconds remaining in the period to give the Senators a 2–1 lead.
The Senators took control in the second quarter, scoring five goals in the frame. Rogers scored twice in a 19-second span early in the quarter, both assisted by Izzie Sevila, helping Davis & Elkins build a 7–1 advantage. Edinboro answered with two late goals to cut the deficit to 7–3 heading into halftime.
Edinboro mounted a comeback in the third quarter, scoring four times to trim the Senators' lead to 9–7 entering the final period.
The Fighting Scots continued their surge early in the fourth quarter, scoring three straight goals to tie the contest at 10–10 with 9:55 remaining. Davis & Elkins responded with three unanswered goals to close the game. Alexia Gonzales scored the go-ahead goal with 7:16 left before Sevila added another at the 4:39 mark and Stevens sealed the win with 1:59 remaining.
Stevens and Sevila each scored three goals to lead the Senators offensively, while Rogers added two goals and an assist. Quave and Rylee Anderson also recorded two goals apiece, and Gonzales finished with a goal and an assist. Sevila added two assists to total five points in the victory.
Defensively, Davis & Elkins controlled possession throughout the contest, holding a 49–19 advantage in ground balls. Gonzales led the team with eight ground balls, while Zoe Mackey added seven and Sierra Walesheck collected six. Mackey and Mackenzie Mullan also anchored the defensive effort with four caused turnovers each.
Goalkeeper Megan Bauer played all 60 minutes in net for the Senators, recording seven saves.
The Senators held a decisive edge in shots, outshooting Edinboro 46–19 while successfully clearing 23 of 26 attempts.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Monday, March 16, when it travels to Ferrum, Virginia to face Ferrum College. Opening draw is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Ferrum, Virginia.
