ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College men's tennis team earned a dominant 7-0 victory over Millersville University on Monday morning at the Thomas Tennis Center.
The Senators claimed the doubles point before sweeping all six singles matches to secure the nonconference win.
Davis & Elkins opened the match with strong play in doubles. The No. 2 pair of Simon Kiekbeld and Tom Strohschein earned a 6-3 win, while Filippo Buffo and Christo Wirahadipoernomo followed with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles to clinch the point. Millersville's duo of Wulf and Duclos picked up the Marauders' only doubles win with a 6-3 decision over Justus Petersilie and Philipp Fedorczuk at No. 1.
The Senators carried that momentum into singles competition, winning all six matches in straight sets or match tiebreaks.
Fedorczuk led the charge at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Wulf. At No. 2 singles, Petersilie defeated Duclos 7-6, 7-6 in a tightly contested match.
Wirahadipoernomo added a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles, while Strohschein posted a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4. Buffo secured the point at No. 5 singles with a 4-1, 4-1 victory, and Santiago Ordonez completed the sweep with a 2-4, 4-0, 10-5 match tiebreak win over Ducheyne at No. 6.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Thursday, March 12, traveling to Frostburg, Maryland, to face Frostburg State University at 2 p.m.
