ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College women's tennis team picked up a 4-3 victory over Millersville University on Monday morning at the Thomas Tennis Center in Elkins, West Virginia.
The Senators secured the win with a strong showing in doubles play, claiming two of the three matches to take an early 1-0 advantage.
At No. 2 doubles, Lilly Wentzler and Fabienne Lahn earned a 6-3 victory over Gassert and Consigliere. The duo of Maddie Frazier and Emiliana Golac followed with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles against Barreto and Rojas to give Davis & Elkins the doubles point.
Millersville responded in singles play, capturing victories at the top two positions. Hayes defeated Wentzler 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while Hayes topped Liebe Oosthuizen 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles to give the Marauders a 2-1 lead.
Davis & Elkins answered with key performances in the middle and lower part of the lineup. At No. 3 singles, Lahn earned a straight-set victory, defeating Consigliere 6-2, 7-5 to even the match.
Erin Laubscher delivered another crucial point for the Senators at No. 4 singles, battling past Gassert in a three-set match, 7-6, 3-6, 7-5. Golac defeated Barreto at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-1.
The deciding point came at No. 6 singles, where Frazier rallied after dropping the first set to defeat Rojas 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 and secure the team victory for Davis & Elkins.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Thursday, March 12, traveling to Frostburg, Maryland, for a 2 p.m. matchup against Frostburg State University.
