Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Davis & Elkins College baseball dropped a 19-1 decision to University of Minnesota Crookston on Sunday morning at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Chain O' Lakes Park.
Minnesota Crookston scored in six different innings and used a 10-run fourth to break the game open. The Golden Eagles finished with 19 runs on 18 hits and did not commit an error.
The Senators were limited to three hits on the day, with their lone run coming in the second inning. Grant Mealey tied the game at 1-1 with a solo home run to left, his first of the season.
Crookston answered quickly. Fliflet drove in an unearned run with a double in the second before C. Hebl launched a two-run homer in the third to make it 3-1.
The Golden Eagles put the game out of reach in the fourth. Fliflet opened the scoring in the inning with a three-run home run, part of his six-RBI performance. Sculati added a two-run single, Wensloff delivered a two-run triple, and Fliflet capped the frame with his second homer of the inning as Crookston sent 14 batters to the plate.
Crookston added two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and a solo homer from Dean in the seventh to account for the final margin.
Mealey, Carsan Strolla and Nate Silvus recorded the three hits for Davis & Elkins. The Senators drew three walks but left four runners on base.
Cooper Blackburn (0-1) took the loss, allowing eight runs on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings. Dallas Rasmussen, Andy Bailer, Jack Murphy and Bryce Hines combined to cover the final 4 1/3 innings.
Odenbach earned the win for Minnesota Crookston, allowing one run on two hits over five innings while striking out three.
Davis & Elkins continues play at the RussMatt Invitational on Monday at 1:30 p.m. against Roosevelt University in Davenport, Fla., at Northeast Regional Park (Field 1).
