Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College women's basketball team pushed Wheeling to overtime before falling, 68-63, in Mountain East Conference action Saturday afternoon at the McDonnell Center.
The Senators battled back from an early deficit and led for stretches in the second half before the Cardinals pulled away in the extra period.
Jahniya Marion led Davis & Elkins with 22 points, six rebounds and four steals. Kylie Morris added 19 points and seven rebounds, while Kaitlyn Parker chipped in seven points, three rebounds and two steals.
Davis & Elkins trailed 20-14 after the first quarter but responded with a strong second period, outscoring Wheeling 15-6 to take a 29-26 halftime lead. The Senators continued their momentum in the third quarter and entered the final period ahead, 45-43.
The two teams traded baskets throughout the fourth quarter, with neither side able to build more than a two-possession lead. Parker converted a free throw with 11 seconds remaining to tie the game at 61 and force overtime.
Wheeling opened the extra session with back-to-back free throws and held the advantage the rest of the way, sealing the win at the line in the final minute.
Davis & Elkins shot 43.4 percent from the field and outscored Wheeling 36-30 in the paint. The game featured 13 ties and eight lead changes.
The Senators return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 11, when they travel to Glenville State University for a 5:30 p.m. conference matchup in Glenville, W.Va.
