Box Score FROSTBURG, Md. — Davis & Elkins College dropped a hard-fought 97-94 decision to Frostburg State University on Wednesday night in Mountain East Conference play at Bobcat Arena.
The Senators led 46-39 at halftime and pushed their advantage to as many as 12 points in the first half, but the Bobcats shot 59.5 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes to rally for the three-point victory.
Matthew Gray paced Davis & Elkins with 28 points on 10-of-20 shooting, including four 3-pointers. Vegas Evans added 21 points and nine rebounds, while Nnadozie Okoroji finished with 13 points. Malachi Hampton recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Davis & Elkins shot 48.6 percent from the floor and 38.7 percent from beyond the arc, knocking down 12 3-pointers. The Senators also held a 46-39 edge late in the opening half and led 61-50 with 15:07 remaining after a 3-pointer by Evans.
Frostburg State responded with timely scoring from Trey Simmons, who finished with a game-high 30 points and eight assists. Kyle Whippen added 23 points and 14 rebounds, and DJ Daniel contributed 21 points.
The game featured seven ties and five lead changes. Davis & Elkins held an 87-84 advantage with just over five minutes to play, but Frostburg State converted key baskets and free throws down the stretch. The Bobcats went 17-of-20 at the foul line, including crucial makes in the final minute to seal the win.
The Senators will return home for Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 28, hosting West Virginia Wesleyan College at 4 p.m. inside the McDonnell Center. The matchup is part of the Mountain East Conference schedule and marks the final home game of the regular season.
