Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College women's basketball team fell to West Virginia State University, 87-62, on Wednesday evening in Mountain East Conference play at the McDonnell Center.
West Virginia State shot 52.6 percent from the field and hit 10-of-19 from 3-point range. Kenly Rogers led all scorers with 33 points, knocking down seven 3-pointers.
The Senators held an early 7-5 lead in the first quarter before the Yellow Jackets used an 8-0 run late in the period to take a 22-14 advantage. D&E cut the deficit to 36-27 at halftime after a late jumper by Kaitlyn Parker.
Davis & Elkins shot 61.5 percent in the third quarter and trimmed the margin to 13 entering the fourth, but West Virginia State extended its lead early in the final period and maintained control down the stretch.
Kylie Morris paced the Senators with 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting and a perfect 7-of-7 effort at the free-throw line. Parker added 16 points with two 3-pointers, while Deylana Forrest recorded seven points and seven rebounds.
The Senators return to action Saturday, Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. on the road at the University of Charleston.
