Box Score ELKINS, W. Va. — The Davis & Elkins College men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought Mountain East Conference matchup Saturday afternoon, falling 75-72 to Concord University at the McDonnell Center.
The Senators jumped out to an early lead, holding a 39-34 advantage after the first half, but Concord rallied in the second period, outscoring Davis & Elkins 41-33 to secure the victory. The lead changed hands seven times in the final frame as both teams traded baskets down the stretch.
Malachi Hampton led the Senators with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including three three-pointers, while adding eight rebounds. Matthew Gray added 13 points and five assists, and Vegas Evans contributed 13 points and six rebounds. Noah Adamczyk tallied nine points, and Nnadozie Okoroji chipped in eight points, including two three-pointers.
Davis & Elkins shot 46.7 percent from the field, hitting 6-of-25 from three-point range and making 10-of-11 free throws. The Senators collected 25 rebounds in the second half for a total of 42 boards and scored 14 points off turnovers. Bench players accounted for eight points.
Concord was paced by Anfernee Hanna and Boubacar Djigo, who each scored 14 points. Savier McCall added 13 points, and Khamani Wertz finished with seven. The Bears shot 46.8 percent from the field, hitting 33.3 percent of their three-pointers and converting 13-of-22 free throws. Concord scored 18 points off turnovers and 18 second-chance points.
The Senators return to the McDonnell Center Wednesday, Feb. 18, to face West Virginia State University in Mountain East Conference action. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Elkins, West Virginia.
