Box Score ELKINS, W. Va. — The Davis & Elkins College women's basketball team fell at home Saturday afternoon, dropping a 78-54 Mountain East Conference decision to Concord University at the McDonnell Center.
The Mountain Lions jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Senators 19-8 in the first quarter and 20-17 in the second to take a 39-25 advantage into halftime. Concord maintained control in the second half, extending its lead in each of the final two periods.
Jahniya Marion led Davis & Elkins with 16 points while adding three rebounds and one steal. Kaitlyn Parker added 14 points and eight rebounds, and Kylie Morris contributed nine points and six boards. Briyana Sapp scored seven points with two rebounds, and Ruby Smith chipped in two points and five rebounds.
The Senators shot 33.9 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from three-point range and 35.7 percent from the free-throw line. D&E collected 34 rebounds, scored 16 points off turnovers and 15 points from the bench.
Concord was paced by Abbie Smith, who posted 22 points and 21 rebounds. Kenyah Stubbs added 12 points and Olivia Ziolkowski contributed 10. The Bears shot 48.5 percent from the field, including 26.3 percent from three-point range, and scored 27 points off the bench.
The Senators return to action Wednesday, Feb. 18, when they travel to face West Virginia State University at 5:30 p.m.
