Box Score FROSTBURG, Md. — The Davis & Elkins College volleyball team fell to Frostburg State, 3-1, Friday night at Bobcat Arena. The Senators dropped the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-23, before responding with a 25-18 victory in the third set. Frostburg closed out the match with a 25-19 fourth-set win.
Davis & Elkins moves to 0-16 overall and 0-3 in Mountain East Conference play, while Frostburg improves to 5-8 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
Kaylee Vanjo led the Senators offensively with 12 kills while hitting .400 for the match. Jezabel Bernard added 10 kills, while Alexandra Mattey recorded six kills and three service aces.
Braelyn Brenneman led the D&E defense at the net with eight blocks, while Vanjo added four blocks and Bernard finished with three.
Liene Dujin paced the Senators with 43 assists, helping D&E finish with 46 kills as a team. Neve Norris led the defensive effort with 17 digs, followed by Madison McGarry with 16 and Aliceya Ciftcioglu with seven.
D&E opened the match with a competitive first set before Frostburg claimed a 25-23 decision. The Senators again battled closely in the second set, but the Bobcats edged D&E by the same score to take a 2-0 lead.
The Senators answered in the third set, hitting .240 as a team while holding Frostburg to a .034 hitting percentage. D&E took control late in the set to earn a 25-18 victory and extend the match.
Frostburg responded in the fourth set, using a .238 hitting percentage to secure a 25-19 win and take the match, 3-1.
D&E finished the night with advantages in both service aces and blocks, recording 12 aces and 11 blocks compared to Frostburg's four aces and six blocks.
