Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins men's soccer team continued its strong start to the season with a 5-1 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday at Nuttall Field.
The Senators (7-0-1, 5-0-1 MEC) scored twice in the first half and added three more goals after halftime to secure the conference win. West Virginia Wesleyan fell to 0-7-1 overall and 0-4-0 in MEC play.
Johan Magaña led the Senators with two goals, both coming in the opening half. He opened the scoring in the 24th minute off an assist from Lautaro Fernandez before finding the back of the net again in the 31st minute, this time assisted by Hugo Fauli.
D&E extended its lead early in the second half when Benjamin Luengo scored in the 53rd minute off a pass from Jordi Rafus Aulet.
West Virginia Wesleyan got on the board in the 66th minute with a penalty kick from Jake Hotka, but the Senators quickly responded. Dino Andreozzi scored in the 70th minute off his second assist of the afternoon from Fauli.
Abdourhaman Faye capped the scoring in the 86th minute, finishing a pass from Guzman Irigaray to give D&E its fifth goal of the match.
Fauli finished with two assists, while Fernandez, Rafus Aulet and Irigaray each added one. D&E outshot West Virginia Wesleyan 13-5 and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Charlie Phillips recorded three saves in goal for the Senators.
