Box Score ELKINS, W. Va. — Glenville State built an early lead and never trailed in an 88-63 Mountain East Conference women's basketball victory over Davis & Elkins on Wednesday evening at the McDonnell Center.
The Pioneers opened the game with a 26-13 advantage after the first quarter and carried a 48-31 lead into halftime. Glenville State maintained control throughout the second half, holding the Senators to 35.5 percent shooting for the game.
Briyana Sapp led Davis & Elkins with 20 points, finishing 6-of-12 from the field and 8-of-11 at the free-throw line. Kaitlyn Parker and Kylie Morris each scored 11 points, with Parker knocking down three 3-pointers. Morris added a team-high six rebounds.
Jahniya Marion finished with seven points and four rebounds, while Koi Shabazz pulled down four rebounds off the bench. The Senators totaled 27 rebounds and scored 14 bench points in the contest.
Davis & Elkins shot 22-of-62 from the field and forced 22 Glenville State turnovers, converting those into 17 points. The Senators also finished with 20 points in the paint and seven fast-break points.
The Senators return to action Saturday, Jan. 10, traveling to Concord University for a 2 p.m. Mountain East Conference matchup in Athens, W. Va.
