NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Davis & Elkins College wrestling team placed third overall at the Builder Invitational hosted by The Apprentice School on Saturday in Newport News, Virginia. The Senators totaled 88.5 points, finishing behind Ferrum and Apprentice School in the team standings.

Davis & Elkins competed against a strong field that included Ferrum, Apprentice School, Marymount, Clemson, West Virginia Tech, Averett, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Randolph, James Madison, High Point and others.

Several Senators delivered standout individual performances. At 165 pounds, Jeston Showalter captured first place with five wins, collecting 10 team points. Showalter recorded two technical falls, including a 15–0 victory over Cael Sandburg (James Madison) and an 18–1 win against Eddries Nezam (Marymount), added a pin in 1:14, and earned a major decision.

At 197 pounds, Gavin Hardister placed third with five victories. Hardister notched three pins, including falls over Chase Smith (Apprentice) and Cody Freer (Marymount), and added a major decision to bolster the Senators' team total.

Gavin Rodriguez-Cayro also turned in a strong effort at 174 pounds, placing fifth with four wins by fall. Rodriguez-Cayro recorded pins against Ian Harris (Marymount), David Lopez (Yale), Mathias Schweitzer (RPI) and Lee New (Averett).

At 141 pounds, Benjamin McComas finished third after earning four wins, highlighted by three pins in times of 0:30, 0:41 and 0:56.

Davis & Elkins returns to dual competition on Friday, Jan. 23, traveling to Glenville State for a Mountain East Conference matchup in Glenville, W. Va.
