WHEELING, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College wrestling team went 1-1 at the Wheeling Tri-Meet Saturday, defeating Waynesburg University 34-20 but falling to host Wheeling University 40-12.

D&E opened the day with a strong showing against Waynesburg. Benjamin McComas (141 pounds) and Landon Powell (149) recorded quick pins, while Jeston Showalter (157) and Liam Young (165) earned wins by forfeit. Gavin Hardister (197) added a 19-11 major decision over AJ Tomaino to help secure the 34-20 victory.

The second dual against the Wheeling Cardinals proved more challenging, as the Senators fell 40-12. Logan Powell (149) and Gavin Rodriguez-Cayro (184) picked up wins by forfeit, but the Cardinals dominated with several technical falls and decisions, including Leroy Stegall's 17-2 technical fall at 133 pounds and Bradley Spencer's 22-7 technical fall at 157.

Davis & Elkins will next compete at the Builder's Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 17, at Newport News Apprentice School in Newport News, Va.
