BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College men's and women's swimming teams completed their second sweep in as many days with decisive victories over West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday in their final regular-season meet.
The D&E women earned a 125–26 win, while the Senators' men's team posted a 112–35 victory, closing the regular season with strong momentum heading into postseason competition.
The women opened the meet by sweeping the top three spots in the 400-yard medley relay, led by the "A" relay of Daphine McCann, Anikka Peterson, Lauren Lockwood and Savannah Foley, which touched first in 4:31.89. Davis & Elkins also claimed first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Foley, McCann, Lockwood and Julianne Hobson won in 1:48.97.
Individually, Foley won the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.43), Hobson captured the 50-yard freestyle (26.49), Lockwood took the 200-yard butterfly (2:21.67), Julia Vieira won the 100-yard freestyle (1:05.89), McCann claimed the 200-yard backstroke (2:26.51), and Peterson earned the victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:49.69).
On the men's side, Davis & Elkins dominated from the opening event, winning both the 400-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. The "A" medley relay team of Jan Spehar, Charlie Whitsed, Payton Williamson and Lasse Schrieken finished first in 3:53.46, while Williamson, Schrieken, Leonardo Vallerini and Spehar won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:31.24.
Vallerini claimed individual wins in the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.80) and the 100-yard freestyle (50.22). Spehar earned first place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.75), Schrieken won the 50-yard freestyle (22.65), Williamson captured the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.37), and Leonardo Oshiro secured the victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.70).
The meet marked the final tune-up for the Senators before postseason action. Davis & Elkins will next compete at the Mountain East Conference Swimming Championships, scheduled for Feb. 10–13 in Canton, Ohio, with senior recognition set for Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m.
