ELKINS, W. Va. — Davis & Elkins men's and women's swimming swept West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday evening at the McDonnell Center in the Battle of the Hills, celebrating Senior Night with dominant performances across both programs.
Prior to the meet, Davis & Elkins honored seven seniors from the women's team: Emma Andrews, Grace Janas, Courtney Luikart, Daphne McCann, Jolie McGaughan, Maximillia Sutherland and Julia Viera-Vasconcelos.
The Senators women claimed a 162-24 team victory, while the men earned a 142-32 win.
On the women's side, McCann won the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.22) and later added a victory in the 50-yard backstroke (31.86). Sutherland captured wins in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.26) and 50-yard breaststroke (34.96). Lauren Lockwood won the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.46) and the 50-yard butterfly (27.70).
Savannah Foley earned victories in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.93) and 100-yard freestyle (58.70). McGaughan touched first in the 50-yard freestyle (28.55). Anikka Peterson won the 200-yard IM (2:26.72).
Davis & Elkins also swept the women's relays, with the team of McCann, Foley, Lockwood and Julianne Hobson winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:02.32.
For the men, Payton Williamson won the 100-yard backstroke (56.69) and the 50-yard backstroke (25.74). Charlie Whitsed claimed victories in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.23), 50-yard butterfly (25.16) and 50-yard breaststroke (26.56).
Lasse Schrieken won the 100-yard butterfly (56.69) and the 200-yard IM (2:01.14). Leonardo Vallerini took first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.98). Jan Spehar won the 50-yard freestyle (24.74) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.09).
The Senators also won both men's relays, highlighted by the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Williamson, Spehar, Schrieken and Vallerini, which finished in 3:24.34.
Davis & Elkins returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 10, with a Mountain East Conference meet at West Virginia Wesleyan. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Buckhannon, W. Va.
