ELKINS, W.Va. – Francisco Lopez Kreik scored on a header early in the second half to lift the Davis & Elkins College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon at Nuttall Field in the Senators' Mountain East Conference opener.

Lopez Kreik connected in the 49th minute off a cross from Chinedu Ikem, breaking a scoreless tie. The Senators dictated play throughout, outshooting the Bobcats 15-3 and earning 10 corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Charles Phillips secured the shutout for D&E with two saves, while the back line held WVWC to just two shots on goal.

With the win, the Senators improved to 1-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in MEC play. West Virginia Wesleyan dropped to 0-1-0.

Davis & Elkins will return to action Wednesday, Sept. 10, hosting West Liberty at 4:00 p.m. in another MEC matchup at Nuttall Field.
