Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins men's soccer team opened its 2025 season Thursday afternoon at Nuttall Field, dropping a 2-1 decision to Ashland in non-conference play.
The Eagles struck in the third minute when Lewis Hill converted a pass from Rodri Jimenez to make it 1-0.
The Senators pulled even in the 58th minute when Santiago Maiolo converted on a corner kick from Hugo Fauli.
Ashland answered in the 78th minute when Soshi Tanaka found space inside the box and scored what proved to be the game-winner.
D&E created consistent pressure, outshooting Ashland 19-4 and holding a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks. Junior forward Chinedu Ikem paced the Senators' attack with four shots, including three on goal. Ashland goalkeeper Alvaro Boned tallied nine saves to withstand the Senators' pressure, while D&E goalkeeper Charlie Phillips recorded one save.
The Senators (0-1) return to action on Sunday, Sept. 7, when they host West Virginia Wesleyan at Nuttall Field to open Mountain East Conference play. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
