Senators Rally but Come Up Short Against Bobcats

Box Score

ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins College women's soccer came up just short under the lights at Nuttall Field on Wednesday night, dropping a 2-1 decision to West Virginia Wesleyan in Mountain East Conference play.

The Bobcats struck first in the 29th minute when Ava Badallo finished to give the visitors a 1-0 edge heading into halftime.

The Senators responded quickly after the break as Kristia Kouppi buried the equalizer in the 49th minute to level the score at 1-1. Kouppi was active throughout the night, finishing with a team-high four shots, including two on goal. But the tie lasted less than a minute, as West Virginia Wesleyan's Paloma Zamora delivered the go-ahead goal in the 50th minute that stood as the game-winner.

Davis & Elkins pressed late and finished with a 15-7 advantage in shots, including seven on goal, but Bobcats goalkeeper Maite Coutinho tallied six saves to secure the win.

Goalkeeper Gabriela Acevedo made two saves in 90 minutes of action for the Senators.

With the result, Davis & Elkins moves to 0-3-1 overall and 0-2-0 in league play. West Virginia Wesleyan improves to 2-1-1 and 1-1-0 in the MEC.

The Senators return home Sunday, Sept. 21, for another MEC matchup against Concord at Nuttall Field. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
