Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College men's soccer team rallied from a halftime deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with West Liberty in Mountain East Conference play Wednesday afternoon at Nuttall Field.
The Senators controlled the tempo throughout the first half, generating nine shots and three corner kicks. Their pressure paid off in the 33rd minute when Francisco Lopez Kreik slotted home his second goal of the season off a setup from Yiftah Harari to put D&E in front 1-0.
West Liberty responded with a pair of quick strikes just five minutes later, including a goal from Travis Scandalis, to take a 2-1 advantage into the break despite being outshot 9-3 in the half.
D&E kept pressing in the second half, firing 10 more shots and forcing four saves from the Hilltoppers' goalkeeper. The breakthrough came in the 80th minute when Hugo Fauli created space on the right side and delivered a cross to Santiago Maiolo, who finished for his second goal of the year to level the score at 2-2.
The Senators finished the afternoon with a dominant 19-3 advantage in shots and a 9-2 margin in corner kicks, but neither side was able to find a game-winner in the final 10 minutes.
Santiago Maiolo and Francisco Lopez Kreik paced the attack with a goal apiece, while Fauli and Harari each tallied assists. Goalkeeper Charlie Phillips played the full 90 minutes in net for D&E.
With the draw, the Senators move to 1-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in MEC play.
